About Our Congregation
The Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement, located at Graymoor in Garrison, New York, are a missionary congregation of women religious called by God through the church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We are inspired by the vision of our founders, Mother Lurana Mary White (1870-1935) and Father Paul James Wattson (1863-1940). Read more about our history.
Graymoor Community Service Award
In October of 2012, the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement received this award for our dedicated efforts on behalf of Christian unity and faith formation of the laity, as well as our outstanding service to women and children in danger and the neglected and oppressed throughout the world. Indeed, through all our ministries, our response to the needs of our times and our sincere commitment to being instruments of justice and peace truly exemplifies the missionary vision of foundress Mother Lurana White.
Graymoor’s Franciscan Friars and Sisters Strive for Healing and Unity
In June 2014, we celebrated 300 years of service to the People of God as we celebrated the Jubilees of six of our
Sisters. Sr. Bridget McGovern was a Diamond Jubilarian ~ celebrating 75 years of service. Four other Sisters (Sr. Nancy Conboy, Sr. Mary Sarah Dolan, Sr. Marianne Rohrer & Sr. Paul Teresa Hennessee) were Golden Jubilarians ~ each celebrated 50 years, Our Silver Jubilarian, Sr. Mary Patricia Galvin, celebrated 25 years of ministry and service. We congratulate each of our Sister Jubilarians and we ask your continued prayers for their good health and ministry to our congregation, and for their faith-filled lives.
