Our Mission in Brazil
In the early 1960’s, Pope John XXIII asked religious congregations to send at least 1/10th of their personnel to Latin America because of the tremendous needs of this continent. The Franciscan Sisters and Friars of the Atonement arrived in Jatai in 1963. The Sisters have been involved in religious education and pastoral ministry in various parishes in the Diocese of Jatai. We have two Sisters who are continuing this ministry today.
Sr. Dolores D’Aloia, SA is one of our missionary Sisters in Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil. A book has been written by Oníria Guimarães de Oliveira, who was born in Rio Verde, Goiás documenting
Sr. Dolores D’Aloia’s remarkable life as a Franciscan Sister. The book illustrates her dedication and commitment to her vocation with many photographs, testimonies and stories of her experiences in Brazil. What a wonderful keepsake for all who know Sr. Dolores and for all who will be inspired by her story.
This book is available at the Sisters’ Gift Shop @ Graymoor
