Mission & Ministry
"We could not be true Franciscans without being missionaries. Therefore, the missionary aspect of our vocation is a very important one, one by which we come rightly. By this, we cover work among the poor in our great cities, and in rural districts both in this country and in foreign fields." ~ Mother Lurana (1870-1935)
Following in the spirit of St. Francis and our founders, Mother Lurana and Father Paul, we are missionaries who witness to Gospel values in our lives. Our ministry consists of prayer and apostolic service for the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer 'that all may be one ... that the world may believe that you sent me' (John 17:21-23).
We minister especially to the poor, the neglected, and the suffering. We strive to see and serve Christ in every person.
Mother Lurana's approach to missionary activity was drawn from the example of John the Baptist. She sent her Sisters to new or neglected areas to prepare the way of the Lord. She gave preference to poorer parishes and places. When other members of the church could assume responsibility for their endeavors, her sisters moved on.
We continue the missionary spirit of Mother Lurana in responding to the needs of the church. Our congregation may establish missions anywhere in the world. Wherever we are sent to serve the people of God, we use our gifts generously.
We currently minister within the USA, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan and the Philippines.
